Message from the Superintendent

Speaking for over 500 employees and 3500 students, I am proud to serve as your community's superintendent of schools. We exist to serve the best interests of our students and our community, and we want to invite you to be a part of us. No school system can be a success without the support and faith of our parents, businesses, churches, community officials, and civic organizations.

ONLINE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

Dear Parents,

In July 2012, Senate Bill 289 passed allowing students opportunities to take online courses.  This legislation does not require an online course to graduate, but provides an online learning option should your student or you choose this option.

In the 2013-2014 school year, Butts County Schools will be offering Georgia Virtual School courses online to any student at Jackson High School. A list of courses can be found at http://www.gavirtualschool.org/CourseInfo/Fall2013Courses.aspx. If you are interested in enrolling your child in an online course, please contact the counselor’s office of Jackson High School at 770-504-2300.

GEORGIA CCRPI REPORT

The state of Georgia's Department of Education has released the College and Career Readiness Performance Index for all school systems in Georgia. This new accountability system (CCRPI) gives each of our schools a numerical grade of 1-100. All data in the report reflect test scores from last year (2012).

70 Points: Measures our achievement compared to pre-defined benchmark scores set by Georgia
15 Points: Measures our students' progress compared to their peers in the state
15 Points: Measures our effectiveness in closing the achievement gap between our low performing children and the rest of the state of Georgia.

You will also see "flags" of different colors for each content area and subgroup of students. Green and Yellow flags represent varying levels of success, and Red flags represent areas needing improvement.
