BCSS Updates for the 1st Day of School!

Posted by Robert Costley in General  |  Post a comment

Dear BCSS Families, I wanted to take a moment this morning and send you a quick update about Butts County School System. First, I hope all of you have enjoyed a wonderful summer. While our children and teachers have been out on summer break, we have been busying ordering supplies, cleaning and waxing, making repairs, planning improvements of our academic program, and taking care of last-minute preparations to make the 2017-2018 school year the best in history for our 3400 students! The first...

What's Our Purpose?

Posted by Robert Costley in General  |  Post a comment

For the last year or so, I have done a good bit of walking through the streets of Jackson. It’s one of those things I like about living in a small neighborhood in a small town. When I want to walk, I just grab my shoes, and I take off. Other than the obvious health benefits, these walks have been a great source of peace and creativity and insight for me. It is nice to have no purpose other than to just put one foot in front of the other and go wherever you feel. Sometimes, my busy head...

Every year is a time of rebirth!

Posted by Robert Costley in General

As you read this letter, we are just now putting the finishing touches on a brand-new Butts County School System. Each August, we begin anew as we welcome our students and parents back to a new school year. Our hard-working custodians are buffing those newly-waxed floors. Our bus shop mechanics are checking the air pressure on the bus tires (as they prepare to go ‘round and round’). Our school nutrition staff members are scrubbing our kitchens and ordering food supplies. Our media...

An update from Mr. Costley

Greetings and Happy New Year to all of our neighbors in Butts County! The New Year is a time of change and new beginnings, and while we all have our New Year's resolutions, our focus in BCSS is strengthening relationships and moving forward in building quality in our academic, fine arts, and athletic programs! You may not realize it, but you are witnessing the biggest change to public education in Georgia in 30 years. Speaking on behalf of our teachers and staff, it is almost stunning how quickly...

2015-2016 is here!

Posted by Robert Costley in General  |  Post a comment

My favorite time of the year is upon us. In just a couple of weeks, the mornings in Butts County are going to change. They will feel different, and I think most people know what I am talking about. There is a point each year (usually right after school gets back in session) when we wake up and step outside our door, and the mornings are crisp and cool. The light has changed somehow, and nature is responding to it. Like clockwork, the Good Lord is telling us that fall is coming to the South. Of...

Update from the Superintendent!

Posted by Robert Costley in General  |  Post a comment

I have noticed a lot of change in Butts County recently. For one thing, the weather is cold in this town lately! After suffering through a long, hot summer, it’s amazing how quickly the seasons change. To me, it seems like yesterday that we conducted our community open house of the new wing at Jackson High School on a hot July Day. Now we’re buying turkeys and gift wrapping paper! I am also thankful to notice some additional change that we have seen recently in our community, specifically...
